Not sure if this is just a thing that happens with geriatric folks when they age, but my dad has been pretty mean lately. Me and my brother are all he has, so I’m not gonna completely abandon him, but I’ve been keeping more distance.

If this is more long term it could indicate dementia and if it’s been a short term thing he could have a uti (altered mental status is a common uti symptom in geriatric patients)

This has been happening w mine too, he’s in his early 60s. I’m still financially dependent on him and idk what to do, he would resist any looking into early dementia

He has been doing it for awhile, but it gradually has been getting worse. My dad has been on Xanax for 25 years, and both my brother and I think it’s contributing to his memory issues cause it’s not exactly recommended to be on that med for that long especially for older adults due to the memory stuff.

That sounds really hard, I’m sorry. My dad has also been in denial about the memory issues

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Memory issues are so hard to deal with

Thanks. He’s unfortunately in denial that it’s getting worse
