Ideas on how to handle conflicting access needs re lights? My roommate has astigmatism and needs them on but even without the room being super bright I get headaches. They’re warm lights but we don’t have enough non-ceiling lights to just turn those on.

i have a similar issue, my eyes are incredibly sensitive to light because of my vision problems and my roommates are sighted and need the lights on to be able to function. we do have an apartment, so i can keep my bedroom appropriately dark but honestly the best solution i’ve found is to just wear sunglasses in the common areas and to keep the lights off when i know they aren’t home. not the best solution but that’s definitely a tough situation

Yeah what #1 said is basically what I do. Sunglasses. And also- if your dorm allows- put orange craft paper/cardstock over your big light. I find that warm low lights sometimes aren’t enough and I need the lights to be genuinely orange or red toned for it to not hurt my brain.

Third support for sunglasses. Also, depending on what type of ceilings you have you can also look into bed canopies that will help block some of the light to your area of the room when your roomie needs the overheads

Good idea! I’m not in a dorm so the setup isn’t as easy as putting paper over a rectangle but I might get creative
