Everywhere has different terminology so I’m just clarifying, does that mean you work within a disability resource office for a university assisting disabled students with things like accommodations? That’s what I’m assuming but I just wanna make sure before I ask.

I’m curious how big your caseload is and how large the total undergrad population is? I go to a fairly large university and each employee in a similar role to yours has something like 600 students cases to manage.

Yes! There’s so many different terms, but basically if you were a student seeking academic, housing, or dining accommodations, we would talk about it! For housing or dining, I would have to loop in the housing or dining departments most likely for implementation but academic access is all me (and my team!)

Academic accommodations (extended time on tests, alternate formats for textbooks, deadline extensions, interpreting, breaks during class, access to medical supplies, etc), housing accommodations (ESAs, single rooms, contract release), dining (meal plan reductions), and emergent accommodations (class relocation, remote access, etc). We do a little bit of everything!

This is a good question and there’s no perfect answer unfortunately for us but it’s about 800 or 1:50. The reason we can’t get an exact number is each team member is assigned to a specific school (to build better relationships) and the number of students in the school requesting accommodations fluctuates. Also, in our system, certain types of profiles don’t get tagged with an advisors name. We can tell who it is by looking at it, but the computer can’t, so our numbers look smaller.

Ideally we’d like to hire another person, but we have other, more pressing, roles to fill first
