I’m not a right wing person or even moderate, but leftist people in my local area are honestly the most ableist and toxic people I have ever met. It’s one of the reasons why I’ve been so hesitant to get involved with local activism in my city.

Oh it’s a huge issue, and the disabled like, demographic marker, tends to lean conservative because unfortunately 1) age and disability are often correlated and 2) republican politicians have actually been the ones passing a lot of disability-specific legislation (not trump republicans mind you, his admin is gutting protections and healthcare access). I am very far left politically and it’s a huge issue with leftist organizing for not doing more to prioritize accessibility + quit infighting

i’m blind and the only way any leftist groups here advertise their events is through undescribed instagram posts and things stapled to light posts so if i even want to know what’s going on i need to drag someone around the city with me to read their little fliers. i’ve always been a leftist but since losing my vision i’ve lost my interest in going the extra mile to be involved when i can involve myself in disability advocacy groups that will actually make information available to me

there's such a huge divide in the groups I work with, because the organizers are typically disabled, and no one else works as hard on getting things done and they're so against helping accomodate us for the very things we plan

this is why my political beliefs are centered in disability justice. i’m a leftist but i don’t agree with most of them and can’t participate in their groups because of the lack of accessibility. i never see them masking

Same. And all the “masks encouraged” events in my town are basically useless because rarely anyone ever masks
