ashamed to say i fell for the scam of functional medicine and it cost me thousands. it’s actually disgusting the way these drs tell people all of their problems are due to intestinal permeability and dysbiosis. i had dysbiosis and they still couldn’t help

sorry for the rant i just hate thinking about how many other people have wasted money falling for people with the proper credentials that say they’ll find the root cause and then don’t and even if they do they don’t properly treat it 😪

i thought bc i have a gi autoimmune disease it would help. it’s complete bs. sure it helps some people, if you happen to have highly specific gut issues. but they act like it’s the root cause of everything. it makes me so angry. 3 years and $10k later and my functional medicine dr said casually “hm looks like you’re exactly where you started” like that wasn’t an extremely devastating realization. they didn’t help the dysbiosis, they didn’t help my thyroid issue,

and they completely missed extremely obvious iron deficiency. iron deficiency and thyroid issues are the most common comorbidities of my disease and they still missed it and failed at treating it. they also didn’t care about my hormone issues even though they say they specialize in hormones and autoimmune disease. i felt like i had to be my own dr. i wish i didn’t have to beg these medical gatekeepers for medications when i can just get cheap tests myself.

if it’s not an otc solution i have to convince these out of touch ableist pos what i need and it’s humiliating sometimes. i lived in costa rica and there you can walk up to a pharmacy and get whatever medication you want. no prescription or convincing required. i deserve that. these drs have used and abused me at every point and i’m so sick of being a cash cow for them bc i’m sick and desperate for help. no one cares about me like i do, even when i pay them in the thousands.
