Started sleeping with a pacifier at night and somehow my debilitating jaw pain is gone? What is this magic? And why does it have to be embarrassing?

I do it so bad and my jaw is so strong that I have to get a super heavy duty mouthguard and still replace it every few months

Maybe it’s something you can bring up to your doctor? It completely takes it away for me

Yeah I did lol, the mouth guard was the recommendation bc like. My doctor and also kinda just the area I’m in/my medical history I’m unlikely to be referred to any further intervention for it, I was just adding onto context bc I realized my original comment didn’t really have any. Thank you though! It’s something I’m thinking about for like, the nebulous future of being able to get shit taken care of

bruxism can be caused by a narrow airway and there are dentists and specialists than can help with this! grinding on plastic is not ideal because you end up ingesting so much of it

I’m glad that works for you. I wish a mouth guard actually helped me. I tried a bunch of different types of mouth guards but they really don’t help my pain at all. I don’t really grind my teeth- more of clench them together really hard. It gives me horrible knots right next to my facial nerve which wakes me up multiple times a night- sometimes I throw up from the pain (yayyy go me).

I found out that apparently there’s supposed to be a pencil width of space when you relax your jaw and wracked my brains for something I could keep in between my teeth to keep from clenching (that also wasn’t a choking hazard) and settled on a paci. I figured it was worth a shot. I’ll try anything at this point. Apparently my shot in the dark was spot on.

Nah that’s a great solution, I tried a lot of mouthguards and there’s definitely pros and cons, I was just doing it to the point of cracking some of my own teeth so uhhhhh something has to physically keep them from meeting
