well-meaning “be good to your body, it’s always doing its best to keep you alive 🫶”-ass sentiments trigger me straight to hell like sure, that must feel nice to believe, but personally my own blood cells have been trying to destroy my bones for >15 years

I can’t deal with the thought that for most people my age it’s a given that their body “wants” to be alive. how alienating to know that what separates me from the majority of humanity at a biological level is my body’s inexplicable unending drive to inflict damage upon itself

I like to say that my body hates me

Yeah I try to think of my body as a friend trying its best but in the back of my mind I know that’s not helpful advice for autoimmune folks. For what it’s worth, it is trying, it’s just horribly confused. Sorry you have to endure that.

real. for me I guess the most accurate way to characterize it would be to say that different components of my body are at war with one another for no particular reason

I’m sure that must be a genuinely comforting way of conceptualizing things for plenty of different people, so no disrespect intended of course. I def realize it’s less that the framing itself is a problem and more that I just find it personally triggering but yeah, unfortunately my body’s version of “trying” also includes “trying” to harm itself 😬
