my partner keeps talking about the magical future high tech solution to my disability like it’s the only solution when i complain about a lack of access and it feels kinda backhanded

You should definitely talk to them about it! Type your thoughts out in the notes app, sort your feelings out- and have a discussion. They’re your partner- they’re there to support you! They can’t change what they do not know is wrong.

Also I feel you on the point about the magical high tech solution- it’s bittersweet when new technology is made- “yayyy they made a wheelchair that can go up stairs! booo it’s three million dollars and not well known enough to be covered by heath insurance- oh well- here’s a elevator that only works half the time! Have fun in your new apartment that’s three times the average cost because it’s the only one in the building that’s wheelchair accessible!” 🫠

and i don’t think that’s how they mean it but it kinda feels like they’re implying that the only way ill ever be able to do anything is with some kind of magical solution and i would genuinely rather just have a world i can actually access

yeah exactly!! my biggest barrier right now is finding a job that i can do that’s not some call center bullshit and i’ll talk to them about how difficult it is and they’re basically like oh well it’s ok high tech future solution! but like?? if i can’t get a fucking job i won’t be able to afford that and also i deserve to be able to have a fulfilling job as a disabled person now, so the issue is really just a lack of access
