so tired of going to the dr and explaining "this has been an issue for me since I was 8 but my mom would only take me to the dr if it meant I would get my absences excused" because half the time they don't believe parents are ever medically negligent

like actually I did just get bad grades in gym class because I chose to not participate so I could be in less pain and breathe, my mom would not take me to the dr for an exemption. actually the only reason I found out I have ovarian cysts is because the county threatend my mom with truancy charges.

And then there’s trying to figure out “ok is this actually a Symptom that I need to get checked out or is it just normal to suffer in this specific way” because you get used to just not saying anything to your parents when you know nothing will come of it. And then when I go to the doctor I can’t express the severity of any symptom because my instinct is to go “well yeah I’m having this, but no more than normal” when normal is supposed to be not at all.

actually yes I have had bloody stool since I was in diapers and my mom never even mentioned it to the dr. yes, i had chronic ear infections even as a teen and my mom bounced me from one drs office to another just to get the absence excused and there was no record that was accessible to the new drs meaning they never realized it was so recurrent

the "is it just normal to suffer in this specific way" is so strong when as a kid the answers I got were either "you're making that up/exaggerating" or "no, I do that too" because it is genetic 🫩
