i’ve been going to my appointments alone since i was 16, so my parents get to downplay everything at home. when they did go with me, they would tell the doc that i wasn’t in pain. sometimes, they would tell me to stop exaggerating to the doctor :(
Just had the most validating appointment ever with a female cardiologist telling my mom that my POTS is debilitating and although it will be with me for the rest of my life they are going to do what they can to help me get my life back. I could cry rn 🥹

OP here - my parents are the same way but she made me call her so she could question the doctor and it was such a relief to finally have one tell her it’s real instead of listen to her

For example when I broke my back my mom argued with me and told the doctor I was exaggerating and just needed to take her supplements and think positively and I would be fine

So for the most part I always handle my medical stuff on my own but since I’m still on my dads insurance through work plus my own to help cover costs from all my appointments they get pissed when they’re not involved so I called her since I got the vibe from this one that it would be ok

i think parents feel like they’re responsible for us having chronic illnesses (and sometimes are), so they completely invalidate our experiences to shift responsibility/blame
