
I think the significance is that it creates a dependency on LLM’s for cognitive function. Using less cognitive function to accomplish the same task with an LLM is not inherently a bad thing. But an indirect consequence is that it fatigues the cognitive muscle that is able to reason independently of the LLM. Over time, one *requires* the LLM to complete similar tasks, and is helpless without it.
If someone used a hoverboard/segway to get around everywhere, they would get to all of their destinations faster, and with less energy. This is a good thing. Simultaneously, their legs will significantly atrophy over time, and they lose their full strength to walk/run without it. What is initially an accelerator becomes a crutch. Their body will decline more rapidly than someone who is an active and fit in their daily life (we already know this to be true for sedentary jobs).
