Can someone tell me why the entirety of social media shits on wrx’s now. They were one of the most popular platforms until 2021-2022. Now they just get dogged on sight in the comments -a wrx owner since 2016

The joke about head gasket failure was taken to heart by kids without cars until it become synonymous with the car. Doesn’t help that people can’t build them right and keep blowing them up

Because people online (aka carless 14 year olds) are unimaginative, soulless husks that hate on anything and everything if it's trendy to do so. I can guarantee 70% of the people that shit on whatever car is popular to shit on, would take said car in a heartbeat regardless. Don't let loud idiots online dictate or dissuade your taste in cars bc they're too busy getting off to gintani svjs and 992 3RS' to form their own opinions anyway

Usually because the owners aren’t exactly enjoyable to be around, not to mention those who modify them have dogshit taste 75% of the time. And since you mentioned “WRXs” and not “STIs” the WRXs specificallt are notorious for blowing their transmissions, whereas the STIs (at least 2008+) are not. The head gasket issue is always present (less so 2008+) due to Subaru’s dogshit oil port design in the head, and it’s only exacerbated when your everyday jackass throws 30+ pounds of boost at it

The head gasket failure IS synonymous with subaru’s boxer 4 😭. The problem is, to build them right, you’re spending an obscene amount of money (15k+) just to safely (emphasis on safely) make 400ish wheel.

Only the naturally aspirated Subarus from 20 years ago had headgasket issues. Turbo models never did because they used multi layer steel gaskets from the factory
