saw my ex’s best friend roommate at the bar and he proceeded to apologize to me for how bad my ex was to me during the breakup and said I deserved better and how Im genuine mature and caring person… why would he throw his friend under the bus

They may genuinely disagree with their friends actions. I’ve had this happen to me too but genders flipped. They could also just be trying to get with you
