16 steps to success is just self help slop lmao. That whole uses pseudo-intellectual formatting and jargon to make incredibly basic, common-sense advice sound like profound, hidden secrets of the universe. Your murder mysteries probably require more genuine intelligence than reading repetitive, cookie-cutter corporate “success” manuals😭

I will say, from a psychology perspective, some of those self help book DO help. You just really need to research the authors. What may be common sense to me or you may not be for someone else. A good example is “I” statements. “I feel you don’t show your appreciation enough” vs “you hardly ever show appreciation for me” hits entirely different during confrontations

I enjoyed atomic habits its didnt feel like he was trying to use overly complex vocabulary and the advice was solid

Ig that’s fair, just so many experiences of people who say they read and the only thing they touch is like the 27 laws of power or some shit like that.

Def not an easy read but you don’t need a super high reading level to understand it, way harder to read Dostoevsky or Tolstoy, which my gf loves
