And publishers still think the answer is killing mass markets 😭 I have some well over 1000 pages that fit in my purse and that *wouldn’t* kill you if it fell on your head. Readers were not consulted about this 😔
This is my current read that I’ve been reading when on break at work. Physical copy. It’s like carrying around a cinder block

OP here. I’m a massive mass market fan, and despite ebooks being an option, I just love reading a physical copy. It makes it so much more motivating and enjoyable for some reason. I wish we would do mass markets again

unfortunately it was one publisher making basically all the mass market paperbacks and they arent making enough money now because of how consumers are either focusing more on the pretty books or how cheap the ebook market is now :( they would probably keep making them if they could

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that enough people get angry over it that someone else will think they can make money off of them and start again. Unfortunately it probably has to become a fad on bookish social media for that to happen, and most influencers are only focused on those pretty books as well

i hope so. its a shame because even though they can be cheap, ebooks arent always permanent. platforms like amazon have the power to change or even just remove ebooks from your account if they lose the licensing for them. mass market paperbacks are truly the only option if you want to pay an affordable price for a book and truly own it at the same time.

Same, although sadly I think it’s a very minority opinion. I mean they wouldn’t stop printing if people bought them 😅 I don’t know how much of that though is just that bookstores don’t tend to carry them so you purchase a more expensive copy, or people just don’t know they exist? And also a lot of books don’t even get a mass market release, most of mine tend to be older fantasy or Sanderson
