VOCABULARY IS BAD. Hi guys, do you guys know any good books that could help expand my vocabulary and writing? I want a book that I could enjoy while improving my vocabulary and writing skills. On a different note, whats some good writing prompts?

My biggest tip is reading a variety of genres. They tend to use different sets of words and such and you’ll learn a lot and be exposed to new stories!

Ella Minnow Pea is fun! Basic plot is there’s a city of people who speak pretty eloquently but then are forced by law remove letters from their vocabulary. So for example, first the city bans the letter z and no one can use any more words containing it.

Before anybody says, ‘’Just ask AI!’’ I know but it’s better to hear it from real people and hearing their ideas. A lot of people are using AI to help them write or rephrase their sentences, what do you guys think?

I don’t think anyone here is going to suggest AI (hopefully)! One of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read, even with my English MA, is This is How You Lose the Time War. Every line in that book is amazingly crafted, just pure poetry.

I looked into it and it’s definitely a book I’m going to read! I love the characters already and I haven’t even read the book lol, the summary about it seems interesting! What do you do whenever you read a book? I know annotating is one and it is usually when I don’t know a word. What is something you recommend that I should look out for?

Wow I wonder what happens if they accidentally break it, im def gonna add that to my read next list. It’s funny to me because I thought about a somewhat similar idea to that where humans are only allowed to use a specific amount of words and how they have to adapt to it or else they’ll die. Whats something you liked about the book?

As the book continues the characters (and the author) need to get really creative with their words and it’s really impressive to watch it go from that until so many letters are removed that communication just breaks down entirely

That’s a good tip! Do you have any favorite genres of your own? I really like romance and psychology
