And there was blood and there was death and there were men who rode beneath the burning sun and men who died beneath it and there were children and there were bones and there was the judge and there was the desert and there was no mercy and there was no salvation and there was no god and there was only the terrible and endless procession of men across that barren earth and there was blood and there was blood and there was blood and there was no love. (Rate my McCarthy impression 1-10)
Dw I made one for ur fan fic also 🤞 And there was love and there was longing and beneath the western sun rode the pale cowboy and the flowers bloomed and the sweat ran sweet and the judge smiled upon their union and they danced in the dust and in the dusk and in the dying light they danced still.
I don’t hate Blood Meridian, nor do I think it’s a bad novel. The Judge is a remarkable character, and McCarthy’s prose is undeniably impressive. I just think it’s massively overrated, particularly when people treat it as the pinnacle of Western literature (Steinbeck mogs). At times, it feels like an endless procession of violence slop dressed up in biblical prose and philosophical undertones.
