People with ikea bookcases, how’s the quality of the shelves? I have some heavy series’ and like to stack books to fit more, my current shelves are bowing in the middle. I like the price but was wondering if I should spring for more strength instead?

i recommend getting one that doesn’t have a super thin back because the wood was so thin that it bent and my books started falling out through the back

I have some of the ikea Billie bookcases and like them. I put a ton of comics on them that are heavier than most books and have been very happy with the sturdiness so far

I bought some off Amazon the bottom two shelves have closing door so friends babies or pets can't touch anything. They hold up really well. I keep board games and books on them. There no signs of issues. I don't stack though. It bothers me so I just break down and buy another.

Oh no! Yea the more I look into it, the more I think I should just invest in more heavy duty shelves. I have a little bit to save, I still live at home until my work contract is up and I have custom built-in shelves with no space for more quite yet anyway

Thats good to hear! However I think I have some much heavier than normal shelves, my Sanderson leatherbounds already had to be split up and Im notorious for stacking books on top of and behind others on my shelves. I’m very limited on space rn tho, maybe once I have more room itll be better and could work

I’ll keep that in mind! I personally don’t like having my books behind closed doors, but I’m guessing they provide more support. I’m thinking to start looking at ones with stronger backs or metal/wood combos as I’ll probably still have a good number of books on each shelf. I like to stack for aesthetics, but hopefully I can dial it back a little bit as I’m absolutely stuffing shelves and double stacking rn due to a lack of space

Definitely look for wood. The back stability helps a lot. The doors are more just so they don't damage anything. Babies and pets don't exactly handle books with care which is why I got them. But of course if you don't like it then get other ones
