I feel like Goodreads overinflates books tbh. I read a series that I was so excited for, PAID money for it, only for the writing to be absolute shit. Like the overall plot & world building was exactly what I wanted, but there were such major issues with the writing that it was difficult to finish it. So many current books r like that but if you read an author like Phillipa Gregory, then read something currently popular it’s like night & freaking day, but both may have the same rating!

i’d love to see someone try to objectively reason how this slop compares to something like Jade City

So many newer authors just seem to cannibalize each other, and it’s far too evident at times. Fourth Wing, especially, read like a weak mish-mash of so many other fantasy stories. I’m just tired of this Goodreads obsession with propping up these bad books.

You can’t objectively compare books, everyone experiences them differently. People relate with different parts and feel different emotions while reading. Disliking a book doesn’t mean it’s a bad book, just that it’s not the right book for you.
