Well it is on topic, it’s the same genera it just happened to have been written by a man. If I want fiction and I get romance I’d be pissed too, but if I want sci-fi written by a man and someone has a banger sci-fi book written by a woman I usually don’t mind bc it’s the same thing I was looking for, the author just isn’t the preferred gender I guess?

I respect the genuine rec, but OP was specifically requesting fem authors. That’s the part they were more interested in, with genre qualifiers. For you genre’s more important, for them it’s the less important part. Maybe for a reading-list challenge or something?

Also, unfortunately, the vibe of rec-ing something that is your own preference vs what the rec request asks for reads a little like you don’t read any books to that specification- in this case any books by women authors. You seem chill and I doubt that’s true, (and I might check out ur rec lol) but the initial impression was thus

idk, I’m not a woman, but if I asked for fantasy reccs by queer authors & someone gave me one by a non-queer author then I’d be annoyed. it’s cool that you want to recc that, & I understand not caring abt gender. but if the OP didn’t care, then they would’ve said “preferably by fem authors” instead.

Replying to you but sorta replying to 6 as well cause y’all had similar comments. I get that my recommendation wasn’t exactly what OP was asking for but it was close enough that I was surprised to get hate as opposed to OP just not taking the recommendation if they didn’t want it. I know plenty of women who are phenomenal sci-fi authors but this is my favorite book of the whole genera so I hazarded a rec outside of OP’s exact request for that reason. That being said I’m guessing it came across -

So I chose Gideon the Ninth bc it felt right up my alley and I just finished it today. At first I wasn’t a huge fan of it mainly because I had a hard time understanding that it was BOTH a science fiction book and also a fantasy book. That and it tosses a decent amount of info at you at the beginning, but I am glad I stuck with it.

Once they began their journey to the location in which the majority of the book takes place, I was fully on board. From then on it was very very fun to decipher the puzzle and see the reveals. Now I’m about to start the second book and I’m finding myself excited to start it!

I honest to god think that if yall enjoy this book then yall would LOVE The Tainted Cup. It’s a fantasy take on the Sherlock Holmes and Watson archetype and that shit is so much fun. Don’t look up too much into it as it does a phenomenal job of spinning you around.

I would absolutely give it another shot it was a fun read for sure! I listened to the audiobook while I had the physical book w me and frankly it threw me for a loop at one point near the beginning.
