I read both, personally I like the FMC from fourth wing more. I also like the character development more, ACOTAR doesn’t have character development, the best way to describe it is that Sarah J Mass loves her characters too much to develop them and lets them be flat characters that can do no wrong. Fourth Wings characters are put through it, and actually change, while the best development that Ferye(I don’t know how to spell her name) went through is being a bad bitch, damsel in distress(1/2)

Both are the equivalent of watching those reel shorts stories but as a book and such uncreative lore

I know I’m late to the game, but read whatever is most appealing to you. I never read ACOTAR and wasn’t a big fan of Fourth Wing, it’s not what I wanted out of a romantasy and dragged on for my liking with a lot of unnecessary repetitive wording, but based on what I’ve been spoiled of ACOTAR, Fourth Wing is arguably more appealing than ACOTAR. Writing alone, people’s tastes are different and i hope you enjoy Fourth Wing :)

If you read acotar you may be one a SJM high and not be too happy with fourth wing. If you read fourth wing first, you may enjoy it and thennnnn enjoy acotar

I prefer fourth wing but I have a bias for dragons, and I dislike ACOTAR for several reasons that I’m very much in the minority on, but I feel like Fourth is a better action adventure with romance, while ACOTAR is more of a romance fantasy

Back to being a bad bitch, that once again Sarah J Mass doesn’t let her characters be in the wrong, ever, which is incredibly frustrating. (2/2)

Do yourself a favor, only read Fourth Wing and none of the rest in the series. They get progressively worse

fourth wing is the lesser of two evils imo

Absolutely not…it’s like expecting a fart and getting shit. Acotar is a fart.

Not true, violet is clearly favored by the world. Feyre and Nesta on the other hand are portrayed as being very naive and very jaded respectively.

I’ve read both, hate both. Violet is a Mary Sue who is favored by the world around her and who never struggles.

I do agree with that fact that she’s favored by her world, but that’s to be expected of the main characters, however, to say that she never struggles is honestly plainly incorrect

True, but do they change? That’s my issue, the fact that they stay the same, and are always in the right. The main characters can and should be in the wrong inside their own universe at times, and realize it.

Also, girl got tortured, brutally so, had her mom die, and boyfriend is supposedly turning “evil”

but acotar has characters that are sort of interesting but the doesn’t know what to do with them after a certain plot is over so the high turns into annoyance so quick- 4th wing has more expansive lore that keeps u hooked but the romance is more annoying which is stupid cause that’s the main point of these books

Violet clearly struggles with her identity throughout a lot of the first two books, especially with how things went with her mother, brother, and childhood, and again with her physical limitations in the first book until her “training/poison/ i can finally defend myself” arc. Yes she gets “main character” treatment but she also is literally bonded to the dragon form of a main character, it makes sense they utilize that accordingly in her world. In acotar, the development and struggle was minimal
