It’s not explicitly romance, though it does have romantic themes, but Edith Wharton’s Age of Innocence might be up your alley!

thank you!! I’ll add this one to my list! i’m not necessarily tied to the romance genre, i just feel like i gravitate towards romance cause one of my favorite books and movies is The Princess Bride.

I should also throw Jane Eyre into the mix. It is a romance, and at times super chaotic. Maurice by EM Forester is also very romantic and gay, so kinda unique for a classic. Carmilla is also romantic and sapphic. And I’ve heard Anna Karenina has some romance but I haven’t read it myself.
