Y’all, Barnes doesn’t control the price, the publishers do. They pick the prices for each retailer. We can control discounts to a point, but otherwise it’s not up to the book retailer. Barnes is the only thing standing between Amazon and a monopoly
Okay I don’t want to start anything big, but how the heck is Barnes and nobles still open?? I needed a book for a friend last minute and my local used stores didn’t have it. Decided to get a book for me too, why not. 44 DOLLARS. Both paperback 😳

There's also this fascinating thing called a library. But I'm sure if Barnes was gone Amazon would lobby the shit out of defunding libraries

Barnes is literally the only store that can compete with Amazon so the fact that this is even a controversial thing to shop there is beyond me. Someone said “3x the price of books for nostalgia” as if they don’t sell it at retail price🤨

It’s more about the fact that people are still going despite these prices. Yeah Amazons not the greatest, but Barnes has put their fair share of local stores out of business. You don’t have to shop Amazon either! Amazon and Barnes are like the two extreme ends. There are so many used and local stores in between. The publisher sets the price, I get that, but why not give your money then to a local bookstore that would close without it instead of giving more to Barnes?

To be fair, they can put it at cheaper but as someone who worked at a book store: it’s marked up for convenience. Not all local book stores are cheaper but they can be sometimes.

Apparently it’s not common knowledge. I got yelled at a lot when I was working at B&N for exactly this reason

I don’t know why you got so many downvotes, you’re absolutely right and it’s a privilege that we’re able to own books
