Why do books have to be so expensive, I would love to read beautiful hardcover tomes but even a paperback is like $15 that I’ll finish in under a week and have to buy another, I don’t WANT to pirate but I also want to read a lot

have you considered your local public library?

Join NetGalley! You get to read books before they come out in exchange for an honest review. Depending on your state, there might be libraries that let you borrow ebooks and audiobooks to read in you phone (though apps like Libby, Hoopla, and CloudLibrary).

Ebooks are great and I have a ton but scrolling through an ebook library just doesn’t hit the same as having a big full bookshelf (Also I know the answer is probably publishers jacking up the price)

Mass consumerism and that fast fashion trend for books recently has encouraged publishers to raise the prices. Books are more expensive than they ever have been and the death of the mass paper back reflects this market change.

Check out local used bookstores! Also Facebook marketplace, a lot of people sell boxes of used books there (I don’t love selling off your kids’ books but most people are less bonded to physical things than I am)

the one i work at usually gets the nice special edition hard backs and everything. you get all the joy of reading a gorgeous hardback without the follies of spending money or having to make space for a bunch of books in your home!
