Absolutely begging for a book rec that futures adults (please I do not want to read about teenagers) that have black main characters in a fantasy or sci fi genre. This feels impossible.

Octavia Butler may be the author for you! She’s the OG Black sci fi author. As far as I’m aware all or most of her books are sci fi and/or dystopian and feature Black women

I feel like you may need to partake in some of nk jemisin’s work. May I recommend the broken earth trilogy to start and the city we became if you’re into urban fantasy?

Might be borderline, but The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winters. The mc is like 18-19 at the beginning but iirc the book covers a little bit of time and he ends in his 20s. It’s also not written like ya though and I think it’s still good regardless

Two people in my DnD party made their characters old ladies who were lifelong BFFs and they ended up being the most OP characters of the group. And def my favorites

Not helpful to OP, but 3 if you like middle age people on an adventure and DnD you should def read Kings of the Wyld
