I’m a librarian. Frieda McFadden books go out at a crazy rate. She writes more thrillers. I would recommend Enders Game if you like sci fi or Eragon for fantasy. Both are great stories, but not super hard reads

For mysteries then Agatha Christie is gonna be your best launching point for sure. I read Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile were both quick, enjoyable reads.
