I’m an avid hater of The Odyssey, I’ve read it 4 times and in 4 different translations. But somehow the movie lacked everything that made The Odyssey what it was. It’s just a blank slate, poorly executed copy with bad casting. Especially Calypso
I have never “this is not like the book”ed harder than when watching The Odyssey

Never thought I would say this but Pirates of the Caribbean and Spirit have better representation of the Odyssey’s story than Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Lacked a lot of character details and storytelling beats in favor of atmosphere and aesthetics. The Odyssey is much more character oriented rather than the events happening on screen. It was very shallow.

Again, I hate The Odyssey as a story but know A LOT about it. I’m a bit of a hate reader, but the pieces of the story that are well written (not necessarily meaning I liked them) are glossed over in the film.

I would recommend reading it once just to know the story and understand why literature nerds hated this movie and why it sucks :)
