Heard some rumblings about Alchemised and saw it right in front of me at the bookstore today so I picked it up (I had a gift card so it was free and that’s on Girl Math) Non-spoiler opinions?

It’s really good so far! I read the source material and Alchemised feels fresh and original while keeping some of the core aspects of Manacled. However, it is NOT a romance. It’s a war story and incredibly dark, if you can’t handle graphic depictions of SA, suicide, Necromancy, mentions of necrophilia + cannibalism, etc. you should definitely rethink the read. It is GRAPHIC. And not to be romanticized. Booktok and news agencies are marketing it as a dark romance but it definitely is not.

I can’t go too deep into it without spoilers but the circumstances are incredibly complicated. Read it and give your own opinions, people are spreading SO much misinformation about this book. Especially booktokers. They’re calling this a Rape fantasy and a dark romance and it is NOT

Honestly I heard about most of what you said, I just wanted to confirm because, like you also pointed out, people are miscategorizing the book. There’s certain things are certain things in life I’m significantly less likely to experience so I figured this is an important read to comprehend
