I want to get into reading. I’ve never read anything other than what was required of me in highschool. Any suggestions on where to start?

Read what you love, you’ll never get into reading forcing yourself to read books just because someone told you to. Test the waters on multiple genres and don’t be scared to DNF a book you don’t enjoy. I found it was easier to get back into reading starting with faster-paced books and slowly working into longer books that contained more world-building.

honestly start with something quick and easy to get through. like the percy jackson series. something to make you realize you don't have to spend hours and hours reading

The hunger games is really good! Even if you know the plot, it’s an easy read and a great story. so much more to it than in the movies

Start with a book genre that you are interested in. Or if there is a movie adaption, read the book first then watch the movie.

I would suggest reading the book of a movie you already like. That’s what got me into reading. My absolute favorite movie is Little Women (2019), so I figured I’d read the book and see if I liked it. It took me a whole year, but I did it! Still is my favorite book (read it abt 3 times now) and now I avg abt 16-17 books a year!

honeslty, go to a barnes and noble and pick a genre you think you’d be interested in, and go and read the back of books and pick one! was the easiest way for me to get into something by reading something i picked

I would recommend looking for a short book if you want to get back into reading. I know there is the whole “don’t judge a book by its cover” but I really enjoy picking up books whose covers and titles spark interest in me. I really enjoy going on Pinterest and searching through recommended books. I then save them and go to a bookstore or library where I can read the back.

True I say this so much, reading should be something fun not a chore. If you have to force yourself to read you don’t like what you’re reading!

Yeah it took me a while to get comfortable with DNF but reading should be something that challenges you or something u enjoy

I’ll often read the book before the movie, I like movies however sitting through a full one can be hard sometimes when I have a lot on my mind, but I love watching nonetheless, I’m especially a fan of cult classics
