That’s fine, and that wasn’t the point of my post. My post is about people who fan cast and purposefully white wash. You can skip over descriptions but to say one is white when they are not is not fair nor is it right. I change characteristics but I never change the race, even with white characters, because sometimes it’s important to their character.

I do agree to some extent. I personally just find it distasteful to the story when it gets adapted into film and any character is purposefully racially casted to fit the current media biased agenda. Diversity is lovely, speaking as a poc individual, but I find it rather disturbing that the media goes out of its way to make everything diverse, it feels fake to me. It’s also why I think new stories should include diversity by choice but not as the focal point, does that make more sense?

I think it’s all racist. White, black, yellow washing it doesn’t matter. If you take a character and reimagine it differently that’s fine, but when you intentionally do it for profit or for media I think it’s morally wrong. no culture deserves to be changed b/c you think one is more important than the other. I don’t think it’s beneficial to write over another character’s storyline regardless of how were described. So yes I agree, washing black white etc is all wrong.

Dw, the best thing to do is not pay attention to skin colour so everybody is treated equally. And if that’s racist then the term racist needs to be thrown away and revisited if treating everybody the same is under its umbrella

I’m assuming this is in reference of annabeth chase in PJO or Astrid from httyd?I just think it’s sad to see good character stories who have meaning with their own identities and that get wiped away for capital greed?

It’s upsetting mainly because they both have a really big character arc of overcoming the ‘dumb blonde’ stereotype, and by changing that, they then don’t have that battle to fight. I mean- heck man, in the PJO musical her song is literally called ‘My Grand Plan’ with the main lyrics talking about her being a ‘smart’ girl that she’s overcoming

But it’s not just her- her actress has done a phenomenal job, especially for the scrutiny she has faced
