Anyone into Japanese literature? I recently finished reading the woman in the purple skirt and Heaven. I would like thoughts on them

I’ve been getting into Japanese literature, but I haven’t read those books specifically yet. I’ve read Before the Coffee Gets Cold, Convenience Store Woman, and What You Are Looking for Is in the Library. Still need to finish Butter

Looking up the synopsis of the book just now, it sounds kind of interesting, if just for the sake of seeing how bullying culture differs in a different time period + country, so that review is kind of a letdown

As well as what you are looking for is in the library. I recommend the woman in the purple skirt. Heaven I know is really popular but I’m kind of eh about it

All the books I listed are solid, but Convenience Store Woman was probably my favorite! I even made my mom read it 😭

I’ve heard about the plot of woman in the purple, and it sounds like it’s right up my alley. I know nothing about Heaven other than I’ve heard its title a bunch. What were your thoughts on it?

Imo Heaven is kinda a cookie cutter story. I feel like it’s written beautifully ( in terms of like quotes) but the characters aren’t conveyed properly for their age, the side characters aren’t developed, and even the adults in the book are kind of robotic. I’m not sure why it gets so much hype, I’m not sure if I was reading the same book as everyone else but I was kind of disappointed by it.

For sure. I’m sure if you find it online for free or something you can form your own opinion on it bc it’s a short read. But it’s not for me. Thank you for ur recommendations and time though fs! I just ordered convenience store woman! I’m also in the process of reading murder in the crooked room. Have you heard of it?

Yay! I hope you like it! I really related to it as a neurodivergent person, since it’s theorized that the protagonist is autistic. But ooooh, not I haven’t heard of murder in the crooked room, what is it about?

It’s like a murder mystery solve the case kinda book.
