in one of my classes for my education major we literally had a unit on banned books, you’d be surprised how many books are banned and the reasons behind it (for example the book goodnight moon was banned from 1947-1972 because it was “too sentimental”)

Apparently you believe government regulating media distribution industries to any capacity = authoritarian censorship? I think Mein Kompf should be banned, and I don’t believe a local government stepping in to do so is necessarily fascism at all.

Jesus christ, I struck a nerve didn’t I? Banning Mein Kampf might not be as great of a thing as you’d think. Is it a horribly deluded manifesto about horrible things? Yes, of course, but allowing it to be publicly accessible allows for it to be studied and recorded as history, which are both important parts of a functioning free society.

I think you’re looking at a physical book as something sacred and ignoring the broader information industrial complex currently. The government can censor free speech for many reasons, whether on apps, media, or yes, physical copies of books. That doesn’t make this authoritarian fascism buzzword buzzword buzzword.

I think we’re talking past each other: in short, I believe those who champion reading such banned literature treat books in particular as some form of empirical truth, that they must read this piece of literature because the government has censored it, which is not the case. I don’t personally believe in book banning, but I don’t see why it elicits this blowback from progressives who would otherwise want to censor other forms of media consumption.
