There is a new form of racism where white women tell women of color who discuss their experiences with misogyny within their own communities they have self-hate, and then take those lived realities and turn them into their dystopian books. I have proof.

The entire fantasy/dystopia genre relies on traumas that have happened to poc in literal recent history, but “if they happened to white people instead.”

This. I 100% agree, but I’m noticing yt women are getting away with it whenever they accuse women of color trying to handle the violent misogyny within their own communities with their books pointing it out of “western propaganda.” Xiran Jay Zhao’s grandmother experienced footbinding. They wrote a book based on that experience, but got accused of appealing to the yt male gaze. It’s pissing me off. I wish Americans would just admit the only women they view as human are yt women.

Really makes me upset because there are aspects of our own culture as white people that we need to discuss instead of making poc traumas about us. It’s lowkey weird. People get really upset when I bring up how a lot of white people’s families only exist now due to human trafficking but love stories that project traumas onto white people, it’s so weird.

We really need to deconstruct our own history rather than stealing from others’

Like the “what if white women were slaves like black people?” Trope really grosses me out. Because why do we feel the need to got there when so many peoples’ families trafficked women as “mail order brides” to America, but no, let’s erase that history because it makes us uncomfortable…and never talk about it again.

Yeah, unfortunately my family is full of them, and more than one ended up in extremely abusive and horrible situations because of it. It’s really conflicting, knowing they were purchased and that is the only reason why I exist today.
