I think people need to know their own tastes or what they’re feeling in the moment. If I want to read something with more complex discussions and themes then I’ll usually read a classic. If I just want to have a good time then I’ll read something like Ice Planet Barbarians.

I think that’s why there were some romantasy readers dogging on Alchemised. It definitely wasn’t a romance, it was really dense.

Yea I’ve seen some reviews on books I wanted to check out and it seems the bad reviews had to do with how complicated and confusing it was but I wonder if I was to read it myself would it really not be so confusing and complicated (it was also a murder mystery) and my friend read it and loved it and I’m betting she actually understood it

enjoyment of a book depends on so many outside factors tbh like i feel like most ppl (me included) will rate books based on a lot of biased factors

It annoys me when people dog on a well-written book just because it wasn’t “enjoyable” in the sense that it made them happy, because some books aren’t supposed to make you happy, they’re supposed to make you uncomfortable and questioning. But it ALSO annoys me when people dog on fun little romance novels for not having exceptional prose or for not “saying” anything. Like mf I’m not reading IPB for substance, I’m reading it for blue alien dick.

Judge something for its designed purpose, basically. Just because it’s not your cup of tea doesn’t mean that it doesn’t serve its intended audience and intended purpose well.

Not everybody reads smut it’s not my personal cup of tea. I tried reading maybe 3 different ones and I didn’t like any of them I’ll stick with a light romantasy instead 😭
