For the dogshit part, it is just not well written at all. Like middle school level. For the bigotry, there's a LOT, with a big part of it coming from the plotline where Sir Cameron gets turned into a woman and it alternates between people describing how disgusting and scary that is and descriptions of him as a woman that are ludicrously misogynist (I can pull up excerpts). The only character of color is a racist caricature and the book never shuts up about how wild and primal she is.
