This was me two years ago, although my kick off was The Expanse and Dune. I cannot recommend The Hunger Games or the Mistborn Trilogy enough. Mistborn is thicker but it’s *good*. I’ve also been wanting to go reread YA books that have been made into shows/movies, specifically His Dark Materials and The Fifth Wave

Anxious People is fantastic lit fic revolving around a hilarious failed bank robbery. It’ll make you laugh and cry pages apart and is also a super fast and easy read!

I love T. Kingfisher! She writes in a lot of different genres, but I'll recommend A House with Good Bones here! It's Southern Gothic

i read a lot of the classics and some foreign classics, but i’ve got to say my favorite is southern fiction. if you’re wanting philosophy, really question life stuff, go for the classics. if you’re looking for a good time, equivalent to watching a tv show and having fun, go for a more commercial story. they’re both great and great to switch between!

I know everyone knows the classics, but I am so serious, Frankenstein is so, so good.

I LOVE Stephanie Garber’s books (caraval and once upon a broken heart) bc they’re so whimsical and fairytale-esque

My favorite book is The Words We Keep by Erin Stewart. It’s a YA contemporary fiction novel that discusses mental health🫶🏻

My dark Vanessa (classified as psychological fiction) and tender is the flesh (horror fiction/science fiction), and a YA series of Mrs Peregrine’s home (that’s what got me into reading)

This is a YA romantasy, but I love it, it's called Once Upon A Broken Heart. Read it in high school, and it's had a special place in my heart ever since

Any specific genres?

I don’t remember any of these being particularly dense and off putting as a rediscovery point, although Dune is definitely daunting

Gotcha, I’ll start off with THG & Mistborn then move on to your other recs. Thanks!

Oh also because I missed it: Mistborn is Fantasy, The Expanse is SciFi. Idk what the technical genre of THG, His Dark Materials and The Fifth Wave are tbh

I’m open to any genre, even poetry. Idk if I’d want to start off with any romance just yet though.

I’m your girl when it comes to romance. I honestly love this book called “Milk and Honey”. I forget who the author is but it’s poetry
