⚠️SPOILER⚠️ OMG okay so idek where the plots headed but one theory that I think makes the most sense is that Azriel and Elaine are mates! he was supposed to die at the end of ACOMAF so the bond transferred to Lucien. Also explains the how Rhys’ parents were mates even though they were horrible for each other. Also SJM did add that bonus chapter of Elaine and Azriel in ACOFS so this being the case ties some gaps in the concept together

Nesta and Rhys make more sense as mates because they’re both powerful and I think that they would have better (drama filled relationship) as enemies to lovers. Lucien and Feyre had better chemistry and I think it’s so weird they didn’t end up together because Feyre consistently cared more for Lucien than almost any other character in the books. Elaine and Tamlin should’ve ended up together because gardening and spring court but also if Nesta and Rhys were together I think that the sisters 1/2

lots more to this tho- Human Elaine and Azriel could’ve been mates but also her love for Gardening and ending up ruling the spring court with Lucien is perfect too idk I feel like the author just writes as she goes with whatever plot she has in mind and doesn’t give much thought to other aspects so I don’t think she thought this deep- but also if she does have something in mind for the future she does slip it in so IDKKKKKKK

Would’ve eventually helped Rhys and Tamlin be on better terms and reconcile? I also think that if the book still played out along the same lines (Feyre kidnapped by Tamlin then Rhys) Lucien and Feyre have a forbidden romance and when her sisters get turned Rhys and Tamlin have to deal with the guilt of imprisoning and using their mates youngest sister as a political tool/weapon
