 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 glad I listened to the free sample of the White Fang audiobook because as soon as I heard “this version has been updated to be more in line with modern views/standards” I immediately deleted it.

I do not care what language the original text uses. I do not care if it’s offensive or if some people find it confusing. I don’t want to listen to an abridged 𝘢𝘯𝘥 censored version of such an iconic piece of literature.

THANK YOU! I found the same thing with an audiobook collection of the 60 original Sherlock Holmes stories. Which is weird because they were fairly progressive for the time as well. Yes, there is ONE use of the N-word, but that’s spread across over seventy hours of audio. That in no way justifies “removal of problematic elements”

𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘: Yes, Holmes as a character does hold some outdated views on such things as Women, but that’s clearly meant to be a reflection of the non-typical way he sees the world and his often judgmental nature at first. As an example, he makes a rude comment about the competency of women in The Sign of Four, which Watson IMMEDIATELY admonishes him for to the reader.
