At my laziest, I underline quotes that I find especially insightful/significant. When I’m feeling like actively annotating, I just write out my exact reaction to what I’m reading like why I think a character said what they said, stuff like that.

I like doodling, so I usually draw a quick doodle about something I thought was cool or funny or thought provoking. And if I’m reading a bunch of works that touch on the same topic, it’s fun to annotate potential connections and areas of further inquiry

I just underline random things and sometimes they serve no purpose. I’ll highlight cute/ romantic things and draw hearts around them but in the margins you’ll find me tweaking out 😭 I’ll be like “girl wtf?” And draw an annoyed face or rant about dumb characters.

I read romance. I underline parts that give me butterflies 😂. Do whatever makes you happy!

i underline for interesting language, important sentences, or even cadences i like, i ✅ exceptionally good prose, and i ⬆️ when the stakes are raised. along with any notes in the margin

I mostly underline words and things i don’t fully understand or get. Reading through blood meridian there are a lot of those and i expect the same with lost paradise

whatever i want ngl 😭 when i first started it was when i was in high school and i was obsessedddddd w tabbing so i made a key at the beginning of the book and then id follow it but now its usually lines i really like or where i get a reaction (sometimes i just put LOL like it’s so unserious) but its really up to you however you wanna do it #yolo
