Has anyone here read between two fires?? Almost done with the first law trilogy and debating taking a brief detour to read that before diving back into the first law standalones and second trilogy

Not yet, you should definitely keep us updated if you end up reading it! I love his other series the blacktongue thief, but am a little hesitant about the historical fiction aspect that all the reviews talk about

Alright I’m like a quarter of the way through so figured I’d give you a little update. Overall I’m really really liking it. The atmosphere and style of writing are genuinely fantastic. It’s historical fiction as far as that it takes place in medieval Europe (France specifically) but that’s about where it ends. It’s much more of a dark fantasy book that uses the extended catholic mythos (eg witchcraft, demons, devils, hell, angels, etc) as the key catalyst of the plot and interact with an (1/2)

And exist in the world in very real and tangible ways. TLDR basically it’s dark fantasy set in medieval France during the Black Death where everything in the Bible and tangentially related works actually exist
