Anyone have any tips for reading with ADHD that’s not just “listen to an audiobook” because I’m sorry but I cannot stand audiobooks

For me, I need to have the physical book, in my hands, because otherwise my mind will immediately wander off. Also, heavily recommend noise canceling headphones and chewing something while reading, could be gum, or a reading snack lol, but it really helps to keep me focused

I bring a book with me wherever I go, and I read while I’m waiting. Be it at a doctor’s appointment, a restaurant, etc. I have trouble reading at home so that’s how I keep myself on track.

I read a bunch of different books at a time. It’s really hard for me to start them, but once I’m able to and am in the middle of a bunch of them, I can easily pick up whichever I’m in the mood for. Sometimes I’ll literally pick up a book, read a page and realize I’m not in the mood for it, and pick up another and continue reading. I’ll also occasionally borrow from the library, the deadlines help me focus (tho they did away with fines so I have been late a few times returning)

You have to find your format and your genre and get comfortable with dnf'ing books! I struggled for a long time but now I read what I want when I want, completely digital on my ereader or phone, and I let myself stop reading something when it isnt working, not in the sense of quitting but acknowledging when its not holding attention the way it should

audiobooks are more bearable for me if I listen to them and read along simultaneously

I bring my books with me everywhere. I only let myself read 2 at most at a time because it’s too easy to DNF if I have more. I read for about 10-15 minutes at a time and I don’t care how long it takes me to get through a book. And before buying, I read the first few pages to see if I like the style so I know I can get through it.

Pomodoro method but for reading! Shorter bursts at first if you're struggling!

Also if you use tracking apps I know theres a function on (I believe) storygraph to rate the pacing of a book! Adhd will usually like things that move fast so using that app to reference those ratings might help in picking books to read

some books are also released as graphic novels like the Legend series
