It’s magnificent. I read it without reading any other books in that universe so it can absolutely be done as long as you’re willing to accept some world building without in depth explanation. The plot is very good, and that characters are fucking magnificent. I feel like every single romance was well written, which is rare af

I imagine it’s really good but I just haven’t tried reading it yet. It definitely feels like that 2014-2017 era where it’s all quirky found family stuff with caricatures and token characters. I’m scared I won’t like it

I actually just reread it in December. I’m not a huge ya reader anymore and it was one of my favorites growing up so I was terrified to read it again, but I actually still really enjoyed it! I don’t recommend reading her other series first, it might not be bad if you’re more used to ya, but it reads very young, is less put together and might dissuade you from picking up SoC. A couple name drops come up from it but that’s all and it’s not really important

One of the best books I’ve ever read, I prefer it over Bardugo’s Grisha series, where I couldn’t force myself to read past the first book 😅
