“The Bright Sword” by Lev Grossman. ~700 pages of meandering pointless garbage.

This might ruffle some feathers but “The Hunger Games” and “Song of Achilles”. I suffered to finish those books they were in my opinion so Boring.

i hated the narrator i thought he just kinda whined and complained for 200 pages without ever actually thinking critically about his situation or accepting fault for some of the things he did

He’s a lonely, traumatized, depressed teenager. He’s extremely endearing and relatable

as someone who was once a lonely depressed teenager and who has known other lonely depressed teenagers, i actually did not find him to be at all relatable bc of how blatant of an asshole he was

I didn’t find him to be an asshole - his interaction with the nuns, with Sunny, the love he has for his siblings, his desire to protect the innocent. What made him come across as an asshole? /g

the way he talks about his classmates and the people who know his brother and the girl that he went to the theater with that i'm forgetting the name of, seems like he doesn't understand how to interact with people but it comes across as pathetic and like he's begging for pity instead of being relatable. it's been a while since i've read it but i remember being completely off put by most of his narration, and for most of the book i was pissed off that he never made any real attempt to seek help
