HA is not a captive/ captor situation so it doesn’t really fit tbh. Is it romanticized abuse? Yeah, but people have kinks and I don’t really care what others are reading. I think it’s weird as hell that they chose HA of all things to make a movie out of, but anything that gets people reading, which it did and does, is ultimately a net gain in the end as people move onto better fiction.

No they’re right. Stockholm syndrome as its own thing is disputed, and we don’t have a bunch of good evidence for its existence as an actual syndrome. I’m no scholar tbc, I just read around, but think about it. It’s just ‘oh they started to empathize with their captor’ but people as a general rule start to empathize with people who take care of them. We’re kinda built for community and survival

it isn’t about empathy. it is about brain chemistry when someone is being abused/held captive/etc, and the sole person is the perp. it’s not bs made up for fun?

You could always do some research yourself instead of having an emotional attachment to a term. They aren’t making things up. And even the people from the situation where the term was coined have differing claims.
