We’ve had this conversation before. They are two different genres. But also, there IS plenty of horror that romanticizes murder. And no one is calling that out to be banned and shut down. You are fighting a fight that both leads further into censorship, and also absolved rapists of responsibility and consequence. “Fiction made him do it.” So which book made me ex r*pe me? Do you understand how horrific the argument you’re making is?

Plus, the obsession changes had almost everything to do with test audiences. There are interviews with director and actor confirming this. People didn’t like him living, but that was the original plan. This was a smart marketing change. Don’t act like it’s some moral revelation to prove a point, especially when they are completely different genres.

Just because the man who harmed you wasn’t influenced by garbage fiction like 50 shades of gray doesn’t mean other r*pe victims were not harmed by it. There’s news online that that garbage book already helped women stay stuck in abusive relationships with partners. I was about to read the book myself because I was interested in it but a friend warned me about it because of how her boyfriend used it to harm her.
