I’ve definitely heard that with like derivative works, but never for anyone who outright plagiarized. That’s stupid. There’s a difference between taking inspiration from a work, or even being extremely derivative of it, and full on plagiarism

Lauren Robert’s outright plagerized from RQ, with even some sentences being exactly the same. People tend to defend Powerless regardless.

Oh yeah I knew about those, hadn’t heard people use the “books are similar” argument but I’ve only seen people criticizing Powerless

i personally loved powerless but because i never read RQ so i had nothing to compare it to, most defenders prob have that pov which is obv just user error and being ill informed

I’ve unfortunately attempted to read both. Couldn’t deal with all the cringe and plagiarism so I had to stop reading Powerless almost immediately.

Expelled too depending on severity and it goes on your record. Idk how it wouldn’t be like that in the publishing world. It’s insane to me that there aren’t more cases of caught plagiarism especially in the age of social media
