Like…that doesn’t make him better. Now he’s just a r@pist AND a hypocrite
I love how HA apologists point out Zade hunts down human traffickers to try to defend him. That makes me hate him even more. Honestly, why couldn’t the author have Zade look out for her in HA to protect her from human traffickers instead of r*ping her.

These are all valid takes, like HA is not for me at all, but OP of the other post has suggested in multiple other threads that people who enjoyed HA are asking to be raped and for men to rape people. Which is horrific to say. People can (& should be able to safely and freely) enjoy dark fiction for a variety of reasons, whether that be processing their own trauma or kink reasons. And I am concerned that the HA discourse is going to devolve into blaming media for men’s actions instead of men.

Haunting Adeline. There is a bunch of discourse in the book community about that right now because the book is being adapted to film

Is it a good book or is it controversial/iffy? I don’t wanna read something with un-needed SA. Stuff like that messes with me bad

I have not personally read the book nor do I plan to. From what I’ve seen in posts and as you can see from the post mentioned, the main love interest is Zane who’s whole schtick is hunting down human traffickers. However, Zane apparently SAs Adeline and I’m pretty sure does it with a gun in one scene if I remember correctly. And this is romanticized in the book that he behaves this way to her

People are not happy that a book that has a main love interest doing this in a way that isn’t stated or inferred to be horrible behaviour. Then it’s being made into a film. From what people say, it seems to glorify rape and make him a character you’re supposed to like despite what he does which is inexcusable. People don’t want it to be a movie. They don’t want to see that onscreen be glorified. They don’t want people getting the wrong message from the movie and doing bad things

Hard pass for me too, all my knowledge is from posts on this page for the past few weeks as some people are saying that it glorifies rape and excuses predators while some are saying that those who would do it already want to do it and it doesn’t add anything. I have my own opinions on it but I want to keep this fairly neutral in description (though I will never excuse SA of any kind)

I think in a perfect world then we wouldn’t have a problem of rape culture. and I don’t love HA getting a film. But HA isn’t driving that. Men and the judicial system that frequently blames victims & lets predators off easy are. Old comedy films that constantly ignore consent have been around for years. It’s a very deep baked societal issue, but the people reading HA for kink reasons are not the ones causing that at all. The vast majority of HA readers are women who know fiction from reality.

(I do agree that Zade is a fucked up character and would not personally romanticize him at all. HA also has a right wing conspiracy plot, so having it be made into a film grinds my gears for many reasons. But art has always been a place to express the taboo across genres and mediums, so I don’t think it should necessarily be censored/ barred from being made either. I just will not watch it, and will continue blaming men for their own actions)
