For me, I think the pain from tattoos feels kinda nice. Granted, I have three small and not super detailed pieces, so that opinion may change as I get bigger and more intricate pieces. I don’t fully understand how the numbing cream works, but as long as you’ve talked to your artist before hand and they’re okay with it, I don’t see why not
So I’m not #3, but I was curious and so I googled it. According to what I found, the two biggest reasons is that there is a concern with someone administering a product containing lidocaine not under medical supervision, and there’s a concern that the numbing cream can temporarily change the texture of someone’s skin as well as affect the skin’s ability to absorb the ink, which could cause the tattoo to come out poorly.
My search also said that in cases like in the state of Michigan (which I’m not in so idk) who just put this regulation into affect, says that in certain cases, you’re allowed to use numbing cream before any type of body modification. The catch with that is the cream has to be prescribed by a physician, and has to be applied only by the person who it’s prescribed to. So the artist can’t apply it to the client.
