aside from taking anti viral meds, you can't "get rid" of a cold any faster than your immune system is built for. Everything else is symptom relief, and sometimes those things suppress your immune response which makes you stay sick longer (coughing, sneezing, and fever are good). Pepcid is the only over the counter med with antiviral properties I know of. If you have any vitamin/mineral deficiencies work on that (common ones linked to immune system are zinc, vitamin D in winter, and iron)

steam & hot soup/beverages helps with symptom relief and helps your immune response of getting the germs out. I think there's been studies that coffee helps fight the actual virus too

gargling salt water was shown to reduce symptoms by 1-3 days 😊 there’s no antivirals you can take for a cold lmao 😭😭

"a number of existing therapeutics have been demonstrated to have antiviral activity against a number of [rhinovirus] serotypes and thus are exciting prospects for therapeutic use in this infection." stereotypes include viruses like HIV & COVID which famatodine (Pepcid) has been studied in relation to decrease of symptoms https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6136076/

TLDR coffee strengthens the body's T Cells which fight viruses https://www.frontiersin.org/10.3389/conf.fimmu.2013.02.00549/event_abstract

the reason salt water is linked to shorter time sick is because it assists in a similar way to coughing & sneezing, propelling the virus out of your body - the same reason hot beverages, food, and steam/showers helps, you're basically replicating the nasal symptoms of your immune respomse
