It’s definitely a good law in a vacuum, but what does it mean by “unsold food”? Stuff past its expiration date? Because that could cause a health issue. Obviously sell by dates are before expiration dates but still, delicate balance.

Once foods get close to expiration, they’re meant to be taken off the shelf, so when they’re too close to expiration to be sold but still prior to expiration date and safe to eat, that’s when they must be donated and then things like foods with packaging that’s damaged or seasonal items that are being replaced once that season ends also apply from what I read
